Meet The Crew: Fargo Manager, Nick Wimer
We are incredibly fortunate at Austad's to have an amazing staff and we're kicking off a series that will allow you to get to know our awesome team a little bit better. First up is our longest tenured store manager. Nick Wimer runs our beautiful store up in Fargo, North Dakota and has been a rock star since he started with the company almost a decade ago. He's a PGA Professional and a Master Club Fitter, who sadly has only one hole-in-one to his name. Here's a little more about the man who runs things for us up north:
Q: How long have you worked at Austad's Golf?
A: I started in the Fall of 2009. I have been in the golf business since 1995 working as a PGA Golf Professional. A little known fact, I worked at the Blaine store in 1994-1995 for a short time when I was attending Anoka Technical College.
Q: When did you start playing golf?
A: My introduction to the game started with my Dad taking me out to the golf course during a summer vacation when I was 12. The first day I just caddied for him, he asked if I wanted to try it the next day and since then I have been hooked.
Q: What clubs are in your golf bag and do you have a go-to club?
A: When looking for clubs I make sure to get what is going to work for my regardless of what company it is.
- Driver- Ping G410 Tour AD DI BB shaft X-Stiff
- Fairway – Titleist TS3 Evenflow X-Stiff
- Hybrids – Titleist TS3 3-4
- Irons – Titleist T100 (5-PW, Dynamic Gold S300)
- Putter – Ping PLD1 Anser
- Wedges – I will be playing the SM8 when they are available in the Spring
- Ball – Pro V1 X
Q: What is your favorite thing about your job?
A: The best thing about my job is talking with golfers about their games and what we can do to help them improve.
Q: You're a Master Club Fitter - what training did you go through to get to that level?
A: I have taken all the education tests from all the major manufactures. Also have been to Mizuno and Titleist Corporate training.
Q: What is your favorite place to play golf?
A: I have had the opportunity to play some first class golf courses over the years. There are so many that I like and would play them over and over, but the favorite was Pebble Beach.
Q: Do you have any favorite sports or college teams?
A: Notre Dame Fighting Irish and North Dakota State Bison
Q: What is your dream foursome?
A: Being in the golf business you seem to always think about what your dream foursome would be. My foursome changes all the time, with adding family and friends to the mix. Dick Vitale, Lou Holtz, Digger Phelps and myself. That would be the dream foursome for me.
Q: What makes your store unique in Fargo?
A: Our store is unique because we are the only Golf Store in our town. We have 2 hitting bays, club repair, all the major club manufacturers, and so much more for the golfer. We have fitters to help you find the right clubs for you.
